What we’ve seen of BioShock Infinite so far promises to do things with the series that have never been done before. As impressed as we are, we still know relatively little about the game
…Shifting levelsA city in the sky opens up all sorts of possibilities that simply didn’t exist in Rapture. Although it was founded to foster absolute freedom, the irony of Rapture was its absolute confinement. You were at the bottom of the ocean, with only Rapture’s prisonlike walls to protect you from cold, liquid death. (That was less true in BioShock 2, but the point of confinement still stands.) Escape wasn’t possible. Traveling beyond the walls eventually was, but only in a very limited sense. And everything was cemented in place where it stood, a pressurized bulwark against the elements.

Columbia, meanwhile, has the potential to be a much more open environment. …D behind VR helmets? The presumption that you need a full body suit and giant sensor array to use Virtual Reality technology is a huge misconception. VR Helmets can be used with a regular modern day game controller. With the VR helmet only taking the place of the analog on an controller that is used to look around in video games. It would make video games way more immersive (think turning your head to look around and find your barrings in Halo: Reach rather than turning your character’s entire body). Also getting rid of the Batman “Bat Suit” effect.It seems like a much simpler solution to making video games more immersive without going through such a large expensive hardware change of buying a specialized 3D HDTV and other equipment. When you could retro-fit a VR helmet on current game systems and just keep the TV you have now….

…Accurately described as Tetris in a disco shirt, Lumines took the dead-simple gameplay of a block-breaking puzzle game and slathered it in enough neon lights to make it visible from space. Granted, the guts were more or less like any other puzzler (clear blocks before they pile up), but the flashy presentation and genius use of reactive dance music made it feel far cooler than any Tetris clone we’d played before. As the video illustrates, the music wasn’t just there to bore its way into your brain. Each time you clear a chunk of blocks there’s an added layer of aural pleasure, with various dings and beeps signifying your continued success.Above: Pure bliss
