…of the apps on the app store being junk, I’d agree with you. They should make a trial api so people can run an app once to check it out (for those devs that don’t make a lite version). I buy many apps and more than once I’ve been screwed by apps that crash every 5 seconds and apps that don’t have all the listed features.

A consumer has up to 24 hrs to uninstall the app and get a refund. Does Apple not allow any such trial period? No, I don’t own an iPhone.

…M” and what not - you are defending the indefensible. Bad form, if you ask me.

It’s in the context of a religious ruling, it involves corporeal punishment. It is not in the context of a porn movie, and I imagine you do realize the difference.

Guess which one didn’t get to walk on the moon?

…Aldrin and Armstrong were at most 50 feet away from the nearest human (each other) as were the other moonwalkers and the non-Mercury Project orbiters (for the US, anyway). Only the solo flyers count.

The Biggest Games of Fall 2010

Every year, it gets more out of hand.

…Do you remember that huge room at the beginning of Assassin’s Creed 2 full of hundreds of Animii chambers? Brotherhood finally reveals the secret behind that strange warehouse: those beds are used to train Templar Knights as assassins. Basically, Brotherhood gives you a way to enjoy some more Assassin’s Creed without having to hold out for the still far-off AC3, but this will be a very different game than what you might be expecting. Ezio’s still in the game, and you’re still in Rome, but instead of focusing solely on killing targets, building up and improving Rome (like improving your villa in the last game) takes a much more important role. Brotherhood also introduces new multiplayer modes (the focus of our previews so far) for up to eight players. You use the same tricks and tactics as in Assassin’s Creed 2, but the men you have to dispatch now are real people, and there’s a good chance that they’re out to get you as well….

DRM Doesn’t Work Because it Doesn’t Increase Profits

The basic misunderstanding of companies is the reason why anti-piracy measures will never work as a means of increasing profits.

…of all pirated copies are a lost sale, then game companies are losing one-third to one-half of their sales to piracy. When people bring up the argument that you think that every incidence of piracy is a lost sale that’s stupid , I really don’t even regard that as a serious argument anymore. I regard it as I’m going to put up a strawman argument, pretend that the games industry believes it, shoot down the argument, then pretend that I’m smarter than the games-industry and believe the polar opposite idea: that piracy has zero effect.
I’d also recommend comparing the piracy rates of Modern Warfare 2 on the XBox versus the PC. It’s harder to pirate games on the XBox (you need to buy a mod-chip, and also have to worry about getting banned by Microsoft). It’s much easier to pirate on the PC. The result?…

On Morality and Making Choices Matter in Video Games

This amazing in-depth article explores the concept of morality in video games, how it affects us as players, and how game developers could use it to create better, more involving games.

…Have you played Heavy Rain yet? Talk about a gripper. And in there, you have many different moral choices you can make that strongly effect the outcome. One (justified) argument is that the killer is always the same at the end, which would be awesome if it were different based on your choices, but this brings around a VERY crucial reason why morality is so ancillary to the canon of a game:
IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO DEVELOP MORE THAN ONE STORYLINE!
This is why we see it rarely happening. Lets say you install 3 simple 3-option choices throughout the game. That’s 3 different scenarios for each 3 different story. That’s 3 for every 3 for every 3 that’s 27 congruent stories that need to be written. With Mass Effect, this isn’t a big deal, as it’s a core part of the game, and in an ever-shifting narrative, it’s possible to develop such a branching story. But, in a game with a very specific narrative, this is not very doable. You’re devoting so much resource into the game, it’s prohibitively expensive to make…

The 16 Worst Comic Book Video Games

Comics and video games are meant to be together! So why are there so many utterly dreadful adaptations?

…s what happened here. The X-Men are all but identical oddly colored, vaguely humanoid blobs. Hitting your enemies is just about impossible, by projectile or punching, and the people making the game had obviously never read a comic book, as the enemies were an odd hodgepodge of giant insects and monsters. You played one X-Men, while the computer played another, though it usually died within seconds. We can barely do competent teammate AI in this day and age, how the hell did they think it would work on the NES? You know, there was one level in this game where you had to chose a path to try and find a boss. If you chose the wrong one, you had to fight all the way to the end of the level, fight all the way back, and then go in the other direction. For masochists only.3. Incredible Hulk: Pantheon SagaNot many people remember this game, but when it debuted it was instantly hailed as one of the worst games ever. You beat everything in the game by punching it. Enemies, walls, switches….

YouTubers Getting Suspended Due to False Copyright Claims

Vandals have struck YouTube with false DMCA claims. Since YouTube’s policy is to suspend first and ask questions later, flagged videos are removed before they are investigated

…Chuggaaconroy is my idol. The first time I saw one of his videos, I was amazed by the work he did. I had no idea that something like this would even be possible. He puts his heart and soul into making these videos. It takes true detacation to take the time to make these for us. There were times where we were treating him unfairly. During Mother 3, he got a ton of complaints and insults about the Kumatora artwork saying that the artist should die. People were also putting spoilers in the comments of what happens at the end of Mother 3. And I remember during Paper Mario TTYD, people were yelling at him saying to make more videos more often because the viewers deserved it for making him what he is today. There were times where we treated Chuggaaconroy like garbage, and even so, he always forgave us. He’s a true hero in my eyes. And theres someone out there who thinks that they can just take all the hard work that Chuggaa, NCS, and everyone else did and throw it all away, that’s just heartless. I’m starting LP’s…
