Americans Confused By Smart Grid, Want it Anyway

Despite not fully understanding what the smart grid is, a recent survey found the majority of Americans actually support it.

…loss to due heat dissipation (this varies).
It also means other things, like new power management systems for the power plant managers who are constantly gaging power usage throughout the country and making adjustments. A “smarter” grid would help that person behind the desk who flicks the switch make faster and more accurate decisions about when and how much power to move to X area of the country.
Furthermore, it can be smaller things as well, like a better power meter that can be hooked into your house line enabling you to understand your usage in a more helpful way, allowing you to adjust your consumption accordingly (if you wish), instead of just looking at the black arm on your meter go in circles and have no idea what it means. Another example would be a device that you connect to your fridge to reduce the power given to it in times of low usage - like at night. The one example you mentioned about the dish washer is the same kind of thing, except, from what I’ve learned you would never be restricted…

…of the apps on the app store being junk, I’d agree with you. They should make a trial api so people can run an app once to check it out (for those devs that don’t make a lite version). I buy many apps and more than once I’ve been screwed by apps that crash every 5 seconds and apps that don’t have all the listed features.

A consumer has up to 24 hrs to uninstall the app and get a refund. Does Apple not allow any such trial period? No, I don’t own an iPhone.

I’ve had a vision and I can’t shake it: Colbert needs to hold a satirical rally in DC.

I was woken in the middle of the night by this(along with the sound of my cat getting ready to pee on the rug).

Video Games are Undeniably Art

Hellmode talks about how video games are art. It’s been said, and it’s been argued against–but it’s true.

…I love video games. Always have.
But I can’t accept calling them art. They are entertainment. They are fun. But what is there to ponder and debate? What comment do they make?
Take your examples. Comparing the universe in Mass Effect to the universe in Star Wars does not make it art. It’s not what makes star wars art. If you wanna call star wars art, call it art for characters and ideas, not the world it put you in.
And Star Craft to Chess!? Chess is a game. Not art.
The visual’s in FFXIII I would compare to a great landscape. A landscape can only be considered art if it is painted/photographed/whatever with a purpose in mind, with meaning behind it. The scenery in FFXIII is just that, scenery. Beautiful, but not art.
High art is created as a commentary on society and the human condition. It should force you to question what you believed was true and evoke deep emotions you did not know you had. Now, you can argue video games do this, and sometimes they do, kind of, but it is lost in the medium. Yes, in…

BioShock Infinite - What We Want To See

What we’ve seen of BioShock Infinite so far promises to do things with the series that have never been done before. As impressed as we are, we still know relatively little about the game

…Shifting levels

A city in the sky opens up all sorts of possibilities that simply didn’t exist in Rapture. Although it was founded to foster absolute freedom, the irony of Rapture was its absolute confinement. You were at the bottom of the ocean, with only Rapture’s prisonlike walls to protect you from cold, liquid death. (That was less true in BioShock 2, but the point of confinement still stands.) Escape wasn’t possible. Traveling beyond the walls eventually was, but only in a very limited sense. And everything was cemented in place where it stood, a pressurized bulwark against the elements.

Above: Freedom? Hardly

Columbia, meanwhile, has the potential to be a much more open environment. Sure, it’s still a hostile one the place is thousands of feet off the ground, and a fall from any of its buildings could mean certain death. But the sky’s literally the limit here. The demo has already shown us that it’s possible to manipulate the environment (which Booker and Elizabeth do by working together to tear…

Speculation: What We Want For Battlefield 3

All we know is that BF3 seems to be a multi-platform release (by virtue of being bundled with Medal of Honor), so it will not only be on PC, but also on PS3 and 360. That, and it’s likely to use the Frostbite 2.0 engine (as good as Bad Company 2 was, it was still technically Frostbite one-point-something).

…Battlefield BC2 is absolutely brilliant, makes me guilty that id never played the series before and even worse that i played COD4 as a subsititute.
I want more team work, build on how great BC2 is with this. Make each class have something it can do for other players so that it feels like were all working toghether. Killing was great but it was even better to clear out a room to revive your friend, or give an engineer more ammo to finish off a tank.
So make sure everyone has a team play element to them. spec ops could be able to call out enemies and have them appear on radar as long as theyre in line of sight? You can ask a sniper to call in an airstrike no matter where you are, just send co ordinates? Stuff like that. make everyone feel needed as that really brings everyone toghether.
Keep the squad idea, its so good playing with friends to be able to spawn on eachother and talk to eachother separately, but have a button so we can also talk to everyone else. Its annoyign when you need ammo and someone doesnt…

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty [Review]

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty brings players back to the sci-fi world they’ve been pining over for more than a decade, and it doesn’t disappoint.

…each time you finish one, there are usually three or four to choose from. In one, I had to defend refugees at night from Zerg swarms and go out during the day to destroy the hives. During my first night there, I found the attacking Zerg were actually infected citizens who became shambling mutations, begging me to kill them. In other missions, you might protect refugees that the Dominion has left for dead, or try to learn more about your enemies and their weapons. On the latter missions, you’ll be looking for Protoss or Zerg-specific items that will help you upgrade your weapons, armor, and more. You might even find yourself search for artifacts for the mysterious Mobius organization, but, beware, the Zerg’s Queen of Blades might be on the hunt as well……

Classic game characters: then and now

Comparing nearly 30 years of gaming history against itself

…Then: A brutish ape who threw barrels down at Jumpman (that’d be Mario, actually) and loved to hold women hostage. Not too bright.

Now: Allegedly, the Kong from the original game is now Cranky Kong, a wrinkled old ape who does little more than sit in a rocking chair and whine about the old days. Today’s Donkey Kong (the guy on the right) is said to be the former Donkey Kong Jr, though it’s never specifically stated that way. Other than a red DK tie, he’s physically the same, but has taken a page from Mario’s book and gone on to become a platforming star instead of a stubborn antagonist. Diddy Kong is in there because he didn’t come in PSD format and refused to move….

The Rise, Fall, and Return of NBA Jam

A behind the scenes look at how Midway’s arcade basketball title became one of the most successful games ever, then collapsed, and how a team at EA Vancouver is looking to revive it.

…like there is still bad blood between Midway and Acclaim. The suits may have been playing nice back in the days, but the troops on the ground seems like they weren’t big fans of each other. Especially with remarks like this
“Acclaim created before EA got its hands on the license, even bringing a copy of Acclaim’s NBA Jam 2004 to our interview as an example of what not to do.”
Well regardless, its great that game has ended up in a place where Turmell could have some say in it and Jam after a long time on the shelf, following it being dragged down seems to be coming back in its former glory….
