9 Classic Sports Video Games We Loved As a Child

While it may sound corny, there was something very cool about finding a game where you got to be Wayne Gretzky or fight Mike Tyson.

…re good sports.
8. Super Mario Kart
Some games succeed in spite of their simplicity. Others, like Super Mario Kart, succeed because of it. Super Mario Kart was a straight forward racing game that featured the usual cast of characters from the Mario franchise, racing around on fantastic courses that were appealing to toddlers and stoned teenagers alike.
Perhaps the most advanced aspect of Mario Kart was the split-screen presentation that allowed two or four players to share the screen, all while maintain a first-person perspective while racing.
The best use of these split screen was during Battle Mode, in which players would compete in a closed-course arena, firing projectiles and dropping bombs to destroy one another. To this day, there is no better application in a video game than the ability to completely screw over your friends, then make fun of them for it. It may have been a game for little kids, but Super Mario Kart had that in spades.
9. NFL Blitz
If the Madden franchise is the Radiohead of football…

15 Video Games You Don’t Want To Play Alone

From Resident Evil to F.E.A.R. there have been plenty of titles that were so scary they had us on the verge of a self-soiling

…Bioshock 2 drops tomorrow. And there may or may not be a couple of us at Complex HQ with reservations about playing it alone in a dark house. That first one? Splicers everywhere, creepy little girls with yellow eyes, a leaky decrepit underwater city, and a dentist who doesn’t know the first thing about personal space? Real talk, there could have even been a couple of spots when we had to pause it until our lady came home. Not that Bioshock is the first title (let alone the scariest) to give us the creeps. Nope, we’re not afraid to admit that we’re certified soft-batch when it comes to horror games. That doesn’t mean we don’t still play them, though.
From Resident Evil to F.E.A.R. there have been plenty of titles that had us on the verge of a self-soiling. So the night before you head back to Rapture, take a trip down memory lane with some of these games. Just remember to turn down the volume, turn on the lights, and have your mommy ready on speed dial

TITLE: Alone in the Dark (1993)
CONSOLE(S): PC

Back again with another smattering of most-desired Sega games.

…NiGHTS
NiGHTS renders drugs obsolete. It’s the
perfect balance of bliss and nightmare wrapped up in a simple action
game. All you do is fly through hoops! Sometimes you break stuff! The
graphics were — screw it, ARE — great, the music even better, and they
made a version for Christmas because the most magical holiday of the
year paired with the most magical Saturn game ever is just common damn
sense. Whatever washes away the fun-erasing Wii sequel is greatly
appreciated….

9 Best Open World Video Games Ever Made

In America, we feel empowered by making our own decisions and controlling our destiny. Open world video games help us scratch this itch.

…dude was actually a woman, but after dabbling with cross-dressing and going to years of therapy, I think I’ve finally come to terms.
GTA IV

Although Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas were fantastic games, they were also full of glitches and limited by their platforms. Grand Theft Auto IV signaled Rockstar’s next chapter in the series, and the first chapter on the next generation of consoles. GTA IV returns to a vastly improved Liberty City, which is not only based on New York City, but does a pretty good job of emulating it in a insanely detailed manner.
Assassin’s Creed II

The original Assassin’s Creed was fun, but somewhat disappointing. Ubisoft listened to fan feedback and returned with a far more polished sequel. The in-game economy and private villa give you a real purpose for completing more side quests and earning more cash. Renaissance Italy is also a very interesting place to run across rooftops, assailing guards and anyone else who gets in your way.
Red Dead Redemption

I’m a big…

Michael Jordan to Grace Cover of NBA 2K11

If the rumors are true, MJ would be the first retired player and first franchise owner to ever be put on the cover of an NBA videogame. Apparently he has a playable character as well in the deal.

…May 27, 2010 Dr. Anklesnap
How many of you out there grew up playing NBA Jam and wished they had a Michael Jordan character so you could control a player with the G.O.A.T.’s skills? I always just wanted to see what his levels would have been in the game’s player selection area. He would have had to have been full power on all skills right? Maybe, slightly less than full power on three’s I guess
Well if you always wanted to ‘be like Mike’ in a game simulation, you may just get your wish after all. According to an ESPN source, the producers of NBA 2K11 have signed ‘his airness’ to be the cover boy. What makes this especially interesting, is the contract would stipulate the need for a Jordan playing character in the game. It is also worthy of note that Jordan still topped Lebron James, Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans among others for the cover spot, even though he’s no longer even an active player. This would be a first, and also as the new owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, it would be the first time an NBA franchise…

9 Cockiest Video Game Characters of All Time

As a culture, we seem to be drawn to “cocky” people. As such, this translates directly into video games. Some of the most popular characters, whether they are heroes or villains, have been cocky bastards

…that half the contestants have a personal vendetta against him. He, like all great evil geniuses, underestimates his enemies.
6. Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is a little-known character from an obscure 1980s arcade game. Sure, he’s not so overtly cocky, like some of the others on the list. But, what makes this big ape think he can keep Mario’s girl just by throwing barrels down in a repeating pattern? Kong arrogantly watches Mario navigate each level from atop his perch. Just as Mario reaches the top, Kong grabs the girl and climbs to the next level. Dick.

5. Don Flamenco

Don Flamenco is a character from Mike Tyson’s Punchout/Punchout. With his fanfare and comments and a rose in his mouth, one would think Little Mac was in for a fight. It’s just not the case. You face Don Flamenco twice, but neither is a challenge.

4. Augustus Cole

Augustus Cole is a character in the Gears of War franchise. He is a Thrashball player turned soldier. He’s loud, violent and loves speaking in the third person a lot. He also…

The Five Best Weapons of the Halo: Reach Beta

The best firearms from the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta, ranked in terms of how many asses they kick.

…Good list. I agree with them. Now lets pick useless ones.

Needler rifle - God I wanted this gun to be good so bad. But its really not. Its weak and for some reason never seems to take covi’s down like I once could with the carbine. YOu had the battle rifle in 3, with bursts, and the covi’ was a how fast can you fire rifle. Then they made this a bmr’s bastard cousin. I want this to be as powerful as it looks but to me, its a 2 dollar squirt gun in a super-soaker 2000 fight.

Plasma Postol - at what point do you just give up on a gun? I mean we have seen this gun in every Halo game possible. Yet it does really nothing worthwhile. Sure it can stop a vehicle but why not make irradiated shells, that tag your oponent on the radar as a longer ‘blip’ so if you are bad enough to get tagged with a plasma pistol, you are tracked for a bit and easy prey for the enemy. hey, if you got tagged by a plasma pistol you need that kind of punishment.

Or make it like a bullet round, that fires fast. You can still do the…

Apple Set to Release New Gaming Console?

There’s been a lot of speculation concerning Apple and what some believe will be it’s inevitable entrance into the gaming industry.

…There’s been a lot of speculation concerning Apple and what some believe will be it’s inevitable entrance into the gaming industry. But still many analysts have doubts, arguing that the company already has three gaming devices: the iPhone, iPod Touch and now the iPad.
But there’s one analyst who believes that Steve Jobs and the gang will make a full play, introducing a standalone console, adding one more machine to compete with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo’s systems.
I think Apple’s going to be a serious gaming company, the Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter said on the latest episode of his show. The difference between Apple and Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft is, Apple is not known for internal software development. So I don’t think you’re going to get an Apple Games Group like you have Microsoft Games Studios making games you’re certainly never going to approach the quality of games you get out of Nintendo.
He added: So Apple’s going to be solely dependent on third parties to support their…
